MORE THAN JUST
NOTES ON A STAFF
As I complete my first semester of the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Loyola University, I will explore adolescent literacy and the role that music can play in
helping students strengthen their literacy skills, with a
focus on secondary music education.

About Me
I'm Denise, and I am completing my first semester of Loyola's M.A.T. program in the area of K-12 music. My original undergraduate course of study at Towson University was music education, however I switched gears to study biology and to have a career in animal care. After several rewarding years working with dolphins (Yes, dolphins!), I have decided to go back to my roots and my first love, which is music. I am a percussionist, and when I am not taking classes, I play with a community wind ensemble in Maryland. My all-time favorite piece of music is Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. My favorite piece that I have performed in wind ensemble is Chorale and Shaker Dance by John Zdechlik, and my favorite piece for percussion ensemble is Twilight Offering Music by Blake Wilkins. When I somehow find free time, I love to bake and take my son on new adventures.
